Band-aids are meant to make everything better, to keep the wound safe until it heals. Band-aids are great for physical damage like a cut or a scrape but what about emotional damage. People are emotionally wounded everyday and there is no simple solution like a band-aid to make to make them feel better.

A cut can heal in a matter of days but how long does it take for someone to overcome the loss of a loved one. The world seems to treat physical health as a more serious matter than mental health. As humans we shame those who have mental health issues and hide our own out of fear of judgement. To be healthy, one must take care of their body and mind and we should be treating both these situations as equals.

Kimonos and Henna for Eid Al-Fitr 2017

Fashion, Home

This Eid my outfit was put together in quite the last minute fashion. I got all my clothes and my henna done the day before. Thankfully Zara was having quite the sale and I was able to create quite the outfit and find my new favorite pair of jeans. IMG_8099img_8103.jpgIMG_8101IMG_8105

I picked up the kimono and jeans from Zara. The kimono adds a nice bit of brightness and color to the outfit while also providing a change to my usual style. The kimono has quite the variety of blues and peach tones and a very unique floral patten. It is quite a fresh twist on a classic and makes the perfect statement piece. The jeans are made of a light blue denim material with added metal accents at bottom of and around the belt loops. The shirt I wore underneath was a simple black blouse from J Crew, that can be thrown on under any jacket. My shoes are the Krista in black leather from Steve Madden. The platform starts with a cork like material to a white cleated sole. They have a 2.5 inch heel and a 1 inch platform. Lastly, my hijab is from Shop the Souq. It is a very light material (perfect for the summer time, and still provides the larger hijab look I love.

This outfit was perfect for its occasion because it was comfortable while also stylish as hell. The shoes provide the perfect amount of height to give anyone that extra oomph and the kimono and accents on the jeans truly could truly make anyone stand out.

Home, Thoughts

I have been fasting the month of Ramadan since I was about 5 years old. Fasting has taught me perseverance, patience, sharing, how to get through all of life’s situations without food or water, etc. I can barely remember the years when I did not fast and looking back on the times when I was a little kid mad at my parents for making me fast and begging them to break it, I am able to reflect on why my parents started me so early in the first place. Fasting from a young age instilled some very important values in me that I thank my parents for everyday. Also, if I would have started fasting later in my life, I would have had such a hard time adjusting to it. Fasting is all about abstaining from our humanly desires from sunrise to sunset to prove to ourselves that we can live without all of our extra accommodations. We consider these accommodations, necessities during any other time of the year. As Ramadan is coming to an end, I decided to write about my love for the month and what I have learned after all these years.

Starbucks Ombré Pink Drink

Food, Home

Like the rest of America, I love Starbucks. Every time a new cool-looking drink is added to their menu, I make plans with my sister (my SB fanatic partner in crime) to try it. Last summer, the pink drink was all rage and since it was on the secret menu, everyone and their mother was ordering it. This year the drink was added onto the actual menu and Starbucks created an ombré version.

This drink for me was a bit disappointing. I was expecting a fruity explosion but ended up with the familiar taste of the toothpaste my dentist uses to clean my teeth. While it was not the worst thing I have ever tried on the planet, I would still probably never order it again. However, other people seem to be really enjoying it so maybe it is not for everyone. I would love to know what everyone else thought of it as well!

Eye Look of the Month: June 2017

Beauty, Home

I have decided to create an eye look for every month that in a way captures the essence of the time of year. The looks can range from neutrals to completely avant-garde and unwearable. They can also represent my general thoughts, emotions, and overall state of mind during the month.

FullSizeRender (1)FullSizeRender

This look captures all the June vibes with graduation and prom being its most prominent events for students. The darkness on the outer corner adds a bit of dimension to the eyes while also allowing the gorgeous pigment at the the front half of the eye have its moment. This look is perfect for any event or simply to just go out. (Please excuse the lopsidedness of my eyes, my head was slightly tilted.)

Products Used:

Modern Renaissance Anastasia Beverly Hills: Raw Sienna, Warm Taupe, and Realgar (outer corner crease)

Bellapier Loose Pigment: Celebration (Front half into crease)

Naked 3 Urban Decay: Liar, Mugshot, Darkside (Second half/outer corner)

Lower Lash Line:

Naked Urban Decay: Smug

Vice 3 Urban Decay: Lucky, Alchemy (outer corner), Alien (outer corner)

Inner Corner: Anastasia Beverly Hills Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit: Glo Getter, Kitty Kat, Forever Lit

Driving at Night

Home, Thoughts

Driving at night, where am I going?

Despite the looming darkness, I am surrounded by lights.

The headlights of the cars flying past me.

The streetlights that brighten the seemingly endless road ahead of me.

The lights of the scenic New York City skyline bring me in.

I am at peace.

Then I wonder, where does everyone else go when they need comfort.

When they have that incessant feeling in their stomach that they need to get out.

That they need to take charge of their lives and what the world has to offer.

I drive at night, but what does everyone else do?

Food, Home

I came across these glorious cookies on Instagram and realized that my life would not be fulfilled without trying them. They are made in THE CUTEST little bakeshop in New City, New York called Caked Up. The bakery is known for its cupcakes and recently came out with their stuffed cookies. I also just need to say that the service was amazing, everyone there was so nice and probably the sweetest people I have ever come across.

I got the one all the way in the back with the chocolate on the sides while my two sisters got the others. Mine was filled with cookie dough, which was an actual out of body experience for me because this cookie was just too good. The one with the sprinkles was filled with with buttercream and the one with the Oreo crumbs had an Oreo filling. I would recommend these cookies to anyone with a sweet tooth who loves cookies. Caked Up also offers a variety of treats including cupcakes and beautifully decorated cakes. These cookies were absolutely amazing and anyone who loves chocolate chip cookies needs to try these

What is spirituality?

Is it a destination?

A feeling?

Or simply a state of mind?

Spirituality to me is a calm. It’s a stable feeling of peace that can come from being in a specific place or by doing something you love. Your entire being just feels at rest like everything else in the world does not matter; just that moment.

Everyone has their own journey to spirituality. By sharing our separate journeys we can further understand one another and eliminate discrimination and hate.

Spirituality is the key to remaining sane throughout our outrageous lives. No matter what you face, just take some time and reach your spiritual height, you will be able to overcome anything.

Spring 2017 Sephora Haul

Beauty, Home

Throughout the month of April, I have spent WAY too much money at Sephora, also known as my heaven. It was a mix of emotions when I felt that there holes in my collection and they needed to needed to be filled immediately. It all began with my incessant need to find the Anastasia Beverly Hills Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit. It sold out online and in my local Sephora and so I went on a hunt. Later on, the VIB sale came around and I spend even more money on products I probably did not need.

The first product I bought was the Better Than Sex Mascara from Too Faced. I have had this mascara before and I was in major need of a new one.

I picked up some of the Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipsticks because it is probably my favorite formula. The shades I bought are Stripped and Pure Hollywood. The formula is not too drying but also incredibly long lasting and the shade range is amazing. Stripped is the perfect nude for anyone with a Light to Medium skin tone. Pure Hollywood; however, is a bit too light for me and resembles concealer when I have it on. I really like taking a little of it and dabbing it all over my lips to add a tad bit of color.

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit has lived up to my expectations as I have finally found it. The hunt for the palette was long and stressful but after nearly giving up I walked into a random Sephora and found it. The glow kit has a range of colors that can used for a range of skin tones as well. The shades are so versatile and beautiful, I am in love.

I repurchased the Benefit Hoola Bronzer because it is one of my ultimate ride or die products. This bronzer has been with me through thick and thin and always provides my cheekbones with the most cutting edge look. It is not too cool-toned or warmed tone making it the perfect bronzer.

I picked up two of the Smashbox Always On Matte liquid lipsticks. I have always been meaning to try out this specific formula and heard amazing things. I originally was also looking at their new formula, Be Legendary, but was uninterested in the shades. The shades I got are Out Loud a deep orange and Stepping Out a darker nude. I have become obsessed with Out Loud its the perfect shade for year round and is quite the statement. The formula is very comfortable and easy to work with as well.

I got the Kat Von D liquid lipstick in Lolita, which is one of the most popular shades from her entire collection. I never got around to buying this shade and decided that the VIB sale was the right time. I find that it also looks amazing on a variety of skin tones.

I picked up the Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in the shade Rose Gold Retro. This product is crazy beautiful and I was surprised by how pigmented and blendable this product was going to be.

I also got the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eye Shadow Palette because I’ve had my eyes on it for awhile but never got around to actually purchasing it. I swatched a few of the shades that caught my attention in the palette to show the incredible pigmentation and creaminess of these shadows.

Lastly, I purchased a Bite Beauty Prismatic Pearl Créme Lip Gloss in the shade Champagne Pearl. This specific product is not for anyone who does not like to take risks with their makeup. The formula is incredibly pigmented and glittery and the actual shade of my soul. It is so pretty and adds a bold lip to any makeup look possible.

Two Very Different Ice Cream Experiences

Food, Home

Living right outside New York has always been a blessing. I get to try all the new, cool, and trendy restaurants that pop up all over the city. Basically, I get to eat a lot of food. With my new summery mood I have been craving ice cream (the best dessert in my personal opinion).

The first trendy ice cream shop I wanted to try was Momofuku Milk Bar, which is all over Instagram. They have different locations all over the city and a variety of different cookies, cakes, and sweets to sell. At this specific Upper West Side location they had soft serve flavors available, Crack Pie and Cereal Milk. I decided to get a swirl of both flavors with a crunch topping.

While the ice cream looks delectable in pictures. On my first bite I realized that getting the crunch was a mistake. This crunch topping simply looks like regular corn flakes but for some odd reason, these crunch pieces taste like straight up salt. Aside from the salty toppings, the ice cream itself also had a hint of salt to it too. For me, ice cream is dessert and ice cream is supposed to be sweet. I do not mind mixing two flavors like sweet and salty but one cannot overpower the other especially in the case of ice cream. I can’t speak for any of Momofuku Milk Bar’s other treats though and would love to hear back from anyone who has tried them before.

My second ice cream experience was at Emack & Bolio’s which also happens to be on the Upper West Side. Walking into this small and quaint shop, my body filled with excitement because I new this had to be good. At Emack & Bolio’s I had a choice of these amazing cones with flavors ranging from Foot Loops to Oreos and they also offered a wide variety of ice cream. I got the Cosmic Crunch flavor which is basically vanilla with caramel, chocolate chips, nuts, toffee, and cookie pieces in a Fruity Pebbles cone.

This ice cream was simply put to die for. It was a heavenly experience and I need to go back to Emack & Bolio’s to try their other flavors because this was too good. I cannot put into words how amazing this ice cream was. If you ever find yourself on the Upper West Side you must try it. I LOVED THIS FREAKING ICE CREAM!
