Two Very Different Ice Cream Experiences

Food, Home

Living right outside New York has always been a blessing. I get to try all the new, cool, and trendy restaurants that pop up all over the city. Basically, I get to eat a lot of food. With my new summery mood I have been craving ice cream (the best dessert in my personal opinion).

The first trendy ice cream shop I wanted to try was Momofuku Milk Bar, which is all over Instagram. They have different locations all over the city and a variety of different cookies, cakes, and sweets to sell. At this specific Upper West Side location they had soft serve flavors available, Crack Pie and Cereal Milk. I decided to get a swirl of both flavors with a crunch topping.

While the ice cream looks delectable in pictures. On my first bite I realized that getting the crunch was a mistake. This crunch topping simply looks like regular corn flakes but for some odd reason, these crunch pieces taste like straight up salt. Aside from the salty toppings, the ice cream itself also had a hint of salt to it too. For me, ice cream is dessert and ice cream is supposed to be sweet. I do not mind mixing two flavors like sweet and salty but one cannot overpower the other especially in the case of ice cream. I can’t speak for any of Momofuku Milk Bar’s other treats though and would love to hear back from anyone who has tried them before.

My second ice cream experience was at Emack & Bolio’s which also happens to be on the Upper West Side. Walking into this small and quaint shop, my body filled with excitement because I new this had to be good. At Emack & Bolio’s I had a choice of these amazing cones with flavors ranging from Foot Loops to Oreos and they also offered a wide variety of ice cream. I got the Cosmic Crunch flavor which is basically vanilla with caramel, chocolate chips, nuts, toffee, and cookie pieces in a Fruity Pebbles cone.

This ice cream was simply put to die for. It was a heavenly experience and I need to go back to Emack & Bolio’s to try their other flavors because this was too good. I cannot put into words how amazing this ice cream was. If you ever find yourself on the Upper West Side you must try it. I LOVED THIS FREAKING ICE CREAM!
